Racial Discrimination

In today’s society, every single human being, every individual, has the right to be judged solely on their merits. It is unfair, wrong, and illegal to discriminate against an individual because of the color of their skin, their religious affiliation (or non-affiliation), or their gender. Men and women, regardless of their circumstances, have rights that are all too often ignored, abused, or trampled on. This can happen in the workplace, in housing, in banking and credit, and in many everyday situations in life. Our country’s history is full of examples of this.

For decades, and in some cases centuries, minorities, and women (majorities) had little or no rights. Happily, this has changed, on paper. Tragically, the effects of these practices remain.
All too often I hear stories of discrimination, mistreatment, and abuse. The consequences of this can be devastating. Loss of livelihood, loss of opportunity, and loss of dignity frequently follow loss of rights. This can be overt and obvious, or subtle and insidious. Many times I will hear a victim say they didn’t know they could do anything about it, and just went along, or walked away. One of the reasons I became a lawyer was to stand up for those who had no voice. To fight for those who spend their lives working and struggling, only to be cheated, devalued, or even left out of the chance at a better life. If you think you may be the victim of discrimination, you have two choices: accept it and stay a victim, or learn about and protect your rights.
